Gift Wrap

Once upon a time, a long, long, long time ago, in a far, far, far away place...............(I've always wanted to start a story like that),.. but this really DID start a long time ago! When my children were small I started a tradition that endures to this day. My daughter "Sarah-bara", and my son "The boy" can attest to this and are still a little embarrassed by it. It started one Christmas when I could not find, or did not have, wrapping paper. I remember looking for something to wrap one of their presents in and suddenly the light bulb went on in my head, (not the wimpy mercury bulbs of today but a real 100 watt incandescent bulb). I'll use Aluminum Foil! (we used to call it TIN foil but I guess that sounds too cheap in today's world and aluminum sounds much fancier and more exotic, after all aren't airplanes make from that. In the beginning the kids thought it was pretty neat, they just wanted their presents, but as they grew older and had to unwrap their foil covered present in front of a everyone they seemed to be a little embarrassed. I didn't wrap all of their presents with that, but they would always get this funny look on their face when the spotted "the" present. The tradition continues to this day even though they are both in their third decade of life and it always brings a little smile to their face when they spot it. Now I can do the same for my grand children, and if that causes a little bit of a smile on their faces after I'm not around to give gifts to, then that will make me Happy!....D, I know you may have to explain the mercury/incandescent thing to your Hero, but he's worth it! Love, C

IN THE BEGINING

My decision to start blogging was brought about by my sister who started a blog a couple of months ago, thenanadiana.blogspot.com. She is a very impressive writer and as her little brother (well, we won't go in to the size thing). I'm sure she would rather I call my self her YOUNGER brother! Anyhoo, we once fought like cats and dogs, (although some cats and dogs do get along), our younger years had their share of squables. Now that we are mature, (not old), we have a wonderful relationship and the little tifts we had as kids seems very funny at this point. She moved from a warm climate to a cold one and I'm sure that wasn't to discourage me from visiting, (just kidding D). I plan on blogging about the everyday situations that I find myself and family in as well as how past trials and tribulations have shaped my life. I'm hoping people can relate to some of the things that I write about and look forward to sharing my experiences and dreams with others. I am a farm boy at heart and the way I view life probably reflects that. Here's to you sis, thanks for the inspiration! Love you, C
